For a short time, apple sat at the top of tablet tree, the iPad reigned supreme while tablets running android operating system struggled to match the quality of apple devices. Now, there's a whole host of android devices that can just about match the iPad and crucially, they are all cheaper than the apple's premium offering. Just to make things interesting and the competition fierce, Microsoft introduced a tablet called "Microsoft Surface", this tablet was created to address the difficulty of creating content on tablets due to the lack of keyboard or mouse plus processing power and apps which seamlessly integrate with software you might find on a desktop pc.
This tablet essentially behaves like a laptop, it is physically larger than its rivals, runs on Windows 8 RT operating system, it has a full size USB port on the side and makes use of magnetic cover which acts as a keyboard, one type of which has normal keys, works as expected (pretty good) and the other type is thinner, lighter and flexible which reacts slowly to keystrokes with a noticeable lag between typing and the characters appearing on the screen.
The touch screen on Windows 8 works different to that on android or apple iPad. One distinct feature of Surface which other tablets lack is the ability to open what is in essence the kind of desktop you will find on normal PC. Surface can run Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and notepad, these are indeed all you can use the desktop for at the moment. In my own opinion, Surface is not a great laptop and can't pass for a great tablet as well because it is heavy, so heavy that if I have one, I might consider cancelling my gym subscription and not bother about the loss weight apps.......lol
So, now, lets say something about the 7 inch displays, Amazon kindle Fire HD and Nexus 7. They are wallet friendly tablets with similar price tags. The kindle Fire HD runs skinned version of the android operating system, it looks different from the android user interface many are familiar with and does have a HD screen
